I think I need to double down on the woesome way of my life. This is seriously a bet I would like to lose. Maybe I will do my bracket today and let the woe’s rain down on me harder while I listen to the Dum Dum girls “Coming Down.” Note that although this song “borrows heavily” the music from Mazzy Star’s “Fade Into You” the overall tone and message I get from it differs so I’ll let the “borrowing” slide. The former is a little more turn off the lights and let the blood trickle down the wrists, while the other is more akin to love can be super powerful and make a person want to lay in bed all day and dream.

I don’t really eat cereal, but if I did I would pick Lucky Charms. Or maybe Kix or Frosted Flakes.

As mush as I love December filled with festivities, fun, and feelings of excitement and hope, January is typically such a letdown – a total crash – historically filled with sadness pervaded by a sense of hopelessness. February is not much better. And Spring is super depressing to me.

Not necessarily jumping on the proverbial bandwagon by liking this track – that’s not really my thing – but the song is catchy, sticks in my head, and true in that I may or may not have done and shared crazy “things” with some guy that later becomes “somebody that i used to know.”

Thoughts: The guy singing the chorus needs some “vocal screaming” practice. His “somebody” sounds rough and it sounds like he ran out of breath in the first chorus. But, I like the female’s blond hair and I typically prefer dark hair to blond hair.*

*Not a hypocritical statement as I am not necessarily a fan of my hair color. On that note, I had a dream that Jimmy Fallon started off as a hair stylist and in an attempt to brush up on his skills, he de-blonded me. Weird. However, I thought he did a wonderful job and loved my newly darkened hair.

I thought, “Would Kanye West ever be stuck on a Wednesday afternoon driving around Chicago wasting precious dollars in quarters trying to find an air machine that worked in order to fill up a tire on his thirteen year old Civic?” No, I don’t think so. #notBalling

shattered dreams

Dear Diary,

I have been writing these letters to Santa, placing him up on this pedestal in my mind, thinking he could help me out in some unknown, but definite way. Then today I started looking at these photos of Santa posing with people and got creeped out. I started to think about the Santa situation and recalled how I was always afraid of the “concrete” Santas: the ones sitting in malls, standing outside stores collecting Salvation Army donations, and the one who always visited my family during our Christmas Eve parties. A dressed up Santa had the same effect on me as that of a clown in a travelling amusement park, Goofy at Great America, or Ribbie and Rhubarb at Comiskey Park (cka U.S. Cellular Field) in that they all freaked me out. Even today I try to avoid these people. Just this past weekend I encountered a traditionally dressed elf at a water park who “weirded-up” his ensemble by wearing stilts underneath his ensemble. I took extra precaution to ensure that I would not come into speaking distance of him and chose to take long-cuts when getting around the park.

So I feel a little dismayed and realize that I have been doing what so many people do to persons not a constant and consistent part of the everyday life and have come to be thrilled by the idea of Santa and not the person in actuality. People are flawed, I know this, but my image of Santa is one of perfection. He is a person free from all the complexities involved in a typical person’s life. Money troubles? What’s that-he’s got it covered. Family issues, no sweat, he and his wife love each other very much and there are no kids to muddy the circumstances. Friends? The elves are some of the most supportive and loyal friends a person can wish to have. No, in my head Santa is just a guy who does good things.

So I think it’s best that I stick to the Santa inside my mind because he seems the nicest, the kindest, and the most asexual of the bunch.

But at least I have this exciting weekend planned with my sister, niece, and some other kid to celebrate Maddie’s birthday at Key Lime Cove. It is the perfect place for a selectively-semi-kid-friendly adult who dislikes water-related activities. They have free wi-fi, yes?
