Armchair Analyst

I agree Allison and Ryan were not destined for the top tier on “So You Think You Can Dance?“, but I think Ryan is a stronger dancer than Ivan and should have remained in the contest. To be honest, I do not think Ivan possesses enough technical skill and cross-genre, dance abilities to even have come as far this round. But I guess he has some appeal to the teen females. Seriously, girls, I have felt let down since the whole Justin Timberlake idol-worshipping days. Didn’t understand that one and don’t understand many which have come to pass. Well, when I was a girl and a text message was a piece of paper with some writing on it, we thought the guy who couldn’t dance, kept a pack of cigarettes rolled up in the sleeve of his white t-shirt, and rocked a dark and broody side while driving a motorcycle was hot. Oh, wait, that was Pretty in Pink or Buffy the Vampire Slayer or maybe even Happy Days. I can’t seem to recall, but I do know I had crushes and I am pretty sure most were real-life, non-tv people,.

In any case, I have to give props to Nigel and his analysis of Ryan. I agree with his comments, but would even go a step further. Nigel stated he believed that Ryan was lacking inself-confidence and his dance was mirroring this deficit. Ryan definitely has talent, but I have not been blown away by his performances. I think he holds back and does not bring his emotions, his soul, into his dance. I think (warning: armchair analysis begins here) Ryan has at some point in his life endured a great loss or hurt. These episodes of pain may or may not have been wildly huge, but coupled with his sensitive nature, he possibly experienced it on a deeper and more profound level than the average person. Because of this, he has attempted to close himself off to the external world, as it is this world which caused the hurt. But in doing so he keeps his emotions contained and does not allow them to be expressed in his dance. I truly believe if he lets some of his innermost feelings leak out into his dance, he will reach an even greater level of skill and abilty and impress the most unimpressible.

So, yeah, my top two prediction’s remain in the contest: Travis and Benji. Whom shall I analyze next…?

What’s On

At the start of the series, I thought Chris Porter was the best of the group on “Last Comic Standing”. I maintained this postion throughout, but must admit I did not get too many chances to see Ty Barnett perform. He’s rather polished with semi-decent material. But I think Porter proves the strongest in both delivery and material. He comes across as a professional. But I took exception with one of his jokes. It reminded me too much of a Seinfeld joke and this recycling sort of turned me off. Seinfeld’s original joke had to do with men beeping their horns at women. He said something along the lines of these guys have run out of ideas. Porter’s joke involved people beeping their horns in traffic in general and he said something like these people have run out of options. To me it just seems too similar and unoriginal.

“So You Think You Can Dance?” A guy will probably win and I think it’s a showdown between Benji and Travis. I am leaning toward Travis as I feel he brings a wider range of emotion into his dancing. Benji, though, tends toward expressing the high and happy, but doesn’t necessarily show the sadder side of life through his dance. Gotta have the blues sometimes, baby.

Please note, I am not a dancer or comedian or talent scout or skillful, for that matter. I just like to judge and criticize. It’s a reflex almost. But seriously, when someone dances poorly or bombs onstage, it doesn’t require expert training to point out the travesty.

My sister’s sister-in-law is pregnant. Yeah for people having babies who want babies. I believe it will be a girl . I am writing this now so some thirty-something weeks later this will serve as proof of my prediction.

I really like this online Scrabble game. Thanks to Joe who passed the link on to me. No, C, your highest score still beats mine. Whatever.
