So this person posts a comment regarding check-writing saying, “Go green - swipe!” This immediately reminded me of a verbal exchange used post the Blackhawks victory when Patrick Kane was asked “Are you going to be on your best behavior at the parade?” he answered, “Not a chance. Not a chance!” (Watch a low-quality clip of this exchange. It’s a smiler.) The reporter sounded a bit bemused by the answer and chalked it up to “youthful enthusiasm.” That is similar to my reaction to the “Go Green” comment - seemingly driven by a youthful exuberance that may elicit a head-patting reaction in certain people.
If this person truly feels that refraining from using a standard-sized 8 1/2″ x 3 1/2 sized piece of paper will save the earth from being inundated with waste, then so be it. May she continue to use her debit/credit card with the belief she is doing her part and I commend the attempt to act in a manner which takes into account a larger audience than one’s self. However, my own rational self strongly believes her thinking simply reflects the over-all illogical and contradictory thinking many humans rely upon to get through a day.
Recently, I noticed Kleenex® had begun to market disposable hand towels for the home. I suppose during the swine flu hysteria Kleenex® people sat around and decided that they could use this flu-mania as an opportunity to extend the paper towel business to home bathroom. It is all a matter of priorities and this makes sense. A person struggling to meet their daily needs of food and water will most likely not feel too concerned if their food and drink comes in Styrofoam containers, so when as a nation a concern was brought fully to the front regarding the transmission of viruses, it simply makes sense that a desire to reducing this occurrence would supersede concerns of creating more paper waste.
I also recognize that I, too, may have once entered into a contract relating to a more idealistic self. However, I defend my failure to continue to act accordingly due to impossibility, frustration of purpose and mistake. However, I stick to vegetarianism because I believe this is the right way to behave and I stand by my assessment that in the future society will view this behavior as barbaric (not unlike the continued reliance on capital punishment to as revenge hidden by the label of justice). I would feel hypocritical every time I saw a cute little animal and said, “awWww.” Feel free to want to pat my head.
Forget the “Wild 10’s” lottery tickets as the date has just been established: 10/8/10. An even [Even Stevens: Shia LaBeouf will star in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps. He will play a dude married to Michael Douglas’ character’s daughter played by Carey Mulligan. Currently, these two date in real life. This has been your popular culture update for the day. Now back to the less popular (arguably) real-life update.) and somewhat symmetrical date. Congratulations!
